MS Dhoni Backs Shikhar Dhawan for the World T20

Shikhar Dhawan played a slow but steady innings against the UAE in the Asia Cup. It wasn’t a typical Dhawan innings, but it certainly has done goods to him.

Indian captain MS Dhoni was all praise for the southpaw after the game, and pointed out the importance of his knock, which will help him in the World T20.

“It was important for him (Dhawan) to spend time in the middle,” Dhoni said. “As the tournament progresses, the wickets will move towards slower side.”

I did not want him to look for too many runs too soon,” he added. “I wanted him to play atleast 25-30 deliveries. If the opportunity provides, then why not.”

Dhawan knew that he wanted that innings, after a string of failures in the Asia Cup. He echoed what Dhoni said and was pretty relived after spending time in the middle.

“I wanted that innings,” a relived Dhawan said. “I have spent some time in the middle. It was important to get the feel of the wicket for the final.”

“I was feeding off Rohit’s brilliance and just wanted to stay there,” he added. “It is a beautiful thing that we complement each other.”
