Mohammed Shami is making a comeback into the Indian Test team after a long layoff. Shami has shown full fitness in the shorter format. Test cricket, however, is going to be a different ball game altogether.

A four-match Test series against West Indies in the Caribbean will test Shami’s form and fitness. The speedster will be looking to get into the five-day groove as the Indian team has to play plenty of Tests this season.

Shami, meanwhile, has started preparing for the Windies tour. The Bengal pacer is focusing on sticking to the line and length. And is not getting carried away with the reputation tracks in the Caribbean had.

“I have played there earlier and I haven’t found them (the wickets) to be that different,” Shami, in an interview with BCCI.tv said. “They are almost similar to India.”

“Yes, in the earlier times we would hear that the wicket is bouncy and all that. Now the wickets are similar to those in Asia,” he added.

“So there is no need to be excited as a fast bowler that you will get bounce and carry,” he concluded. “According to me it is important to focus on line and length.”

The recently concluded triseries between West Indies, Australia and South Africa witnessed pretty slow tracks in the Caribbean islands. Spinners played a crucial role in all matches, which were mostly a low-scoring encounters.
