Misbah-ul-Haq Defies Odds to Put Name on Lord’s Honour Board

Who would have expected that? A player in his fifth decade will celebrate his first hundred at the Lord’s Cricket Ground with 10 press-ups, and everyone in the crowd rose from their seats to acknowledge the feat.

Misbah-ul-Haq, one of the finest captains in world cricket right now, showed that he is not stopping anytime soon. The Pakistan captain struck a magnificent ton on Thursday to put his name in Lord’s honour board.

“I rate this as my top innings in Test cricket and I’m really happy about that,” Misbah said. “It’s a dream to play at Lord’s and especially getting 100, and the name on the honours board is something special.”

No matter how many runs Misbah scores, how much fit he remains, the question regarding his age always pops up. Misbah might have done those push-ups as ‘honor code’ but they were enough to show that he still has it in him.

“Obviously when you are playing competitive cricket you just don’t think about your age,” the Pakistan captain said. “If you are there, you just take on the challenge that comes with playing the game.”

Interestingly, Misbah is the first Pakistan player to have scored a century at the Lord’s in 10 years. The Punjab-born also became the sixth-oldest to score a century in Tests.

“These records are always something special, and they are very satisfying to make those kinds of achievements, but the main thing is just to keep achieving for your country,” Misbah insisted.
