It was fourth successive defeat for the Mumbai Indians in the Indians Premier League  (IPL) 2015, but this time they were left bruised by Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith in front of their home crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.

The Chennai Super Kings demolished the Mumbai Indians to register their third successive win in the competition. They recorded a thumping six-wicket win, with 20 balls to spare to overwhelm the Rohit Sharma-led side.

Chennai made it into a one-sided contest when McCullum and Smith made a 109-run partnership for the opening wicket in just over seven overs. They teared apart Mumbai attack, dispatching them all over the park at will.

Harbhajan Singh, meanwhile, managed to dismiss both McCullum and Smith inside one over, but it proved a little too late, as they had done their jobs and the visitors only need to make run a ball from that point onwards.

“Our attitude was not right. To bat and get 184 was par on this track,” Rohit Sharma said. “We didn’t execute the bowling plans well, there’s no way they could get 90 in six overs, that’s where they won it.”

“We need to go back and see what we are doing wrong. If you don’t win then there’s something wrong in the combination which we have been trying to get right,” he added. “We are not thinking of our next game right now, we need to relax and take it easy.”

Earlier, after electing to bat first, Mumbai Indians endured a torrid start as they lost their top-order insde four overs. Parthiv Patel, Corey Anderson and Lendl Simmons were sent packing by CSK and Mumbai Indians were reeling at 12/3.

But, skipper Rohit and Kieron Pollard started the rescue work and later launched a counterattack by scoring magnificent fifties. They propelled Mumbai to a massive 183, which at one point looked next to impossible.

After the departure of Rohit, Pollard continued playing big shots with Ambati Rayudu, who played a cameo, while Harbhajan also played some good shots earlier in the innings.
