Despite having a miscommunication with a Delhi selector, India’s premier pacer Ishant Sharma may still have to turn up for Delhi Ranji Trophy team and prove his match-fitness before the South Africa series starting at home.
Reportedly, Ishant Sharma missed a call from a Delhi Ranji Trophy selector and he also failed to return a text message to inform about his availability. This led to his axing from the Delhi squad, which is captained by Gautam Gambhir.
“This is very unfortunate and a bowler like Ishant Sharma is not picked. His selection will only help Delhi’s cause. Ishant Sharma also needs Delhi to stay match-fit. In all probability, he will have to play a few of the initial matches for Delhi,” a source close to the development said.
According to BCCI sources, the Indian team management has taken a note of it and suggested corrective measures to avoid such incidents in future.
Ishant,who isn’t a regular in T20 and ODI team for the South African series, has been a very important performer for the Test team. It is his consistent bowling performances in Sri Lanka that contributed to India’s Test series win after 22 years.
