By claiming four wickets in the practice game against the West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI, leg-spinner Amit Mishra has staked a claim for the opening Test match against the West Indies.

With former leg-spinner Anil Kumble at the helm of affairs with the Indian team as the head coach, Mishra’s chance of playing the opening Test has also brightened.

Sources also suggested that Kumble could also back Mishra after his good bowling spell in the warm-up match.

“From Mishra’s spell, one thing is clear. He could get a look in for the opening Test,” a source said, while adding the conditions would ultimately decide the bowling combination of the side.

With rest of the bowling attack of medium pacer not getting enough success from the practice match, Mishra four-wicket spell was the highlight of the Indian bowling attack.

The team management would also take a look at the other bowlers in the next warm-up game, which is schedule from July 14 to 16 before the first Test begins from July 21 in Antigua.

Team India will be playing the second Test at Jamaica’s Sabina Park, while the third and fourth Tests will take place in Gros Islet and Port of Spain, respectively.
