It was as frustrating as it could get for both the teams in Trinidad. For the second straight day rain hampered play at the Queen’s Park Oval, making it difficult to get a result in the final game of the four-match Test series.

On the second day, the ground failed to dry up properly, despite plenty of sunshine in two sessions. The outfield outside the square and the run-up area forced the umpired to call off the day.

The umpires did the first inspection at 10:30 am local time. They inspected the field again after an hour, and then at 1:00 pm local time. Later, at 2:30 pm local time, the stumps were called.

“We have given the ground every chance to dry, unfortunately we have lost this fight today,” said umpire Nigel Llong.

His colleague Rod Tucker added, “If there is no more rain, we hope to have play at some stage tomorrow.”

Earlier, on the opening day, only 22 overs were bowled by the Indians. The visitors, however, did manage to take a couple of wickets with Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. West Indies are 62/2 in the first innings.
