The first match of the main round of the World T20 will be played between the hosts India and New Zealand, and the former are heading as favorites into the contest.
India are boosted by batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, while Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra and Ravindra Jadeja will be vital cogs in the bowling department.
The hosts are heading as favorites not only in the opening contest, but also as a title challengers, and the home conditions have only strengthened their bid for the crown.
“If you know your home conditions well and you are playing good cricket, then obviously people will expect that you will go far in the tournament.”
“We are obviously favourites in our own minds, if we aren’t then there is no chance of progressing in the tournament,” Virat Kohli said.
“In this tournament, coming back from a poor phase is very difficult, so it’s imperative that you start on the right note, on a positive note, and maintain the momentum that we have built up over the last 11-12 matches,” Kohli said.
