The Indians proved unstoppable on the opening day of the one-off Test for Bangladesh. At stumps, on Day 1, the Indians had already posted a massive 356-runs in Hyderabad. They wore down Bangladesh through the day, and the work done by their new-ball bowlers, Taskin Ahmed and Kamrul Islam.

Ajinkya Rahane (45 not out) and captain Virat Kohli (111 not out) had stitched an unbeaten 122-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Earlier, Murali Vijay (108) and Cheteshwar Pujara (83) had made a 178-run stand for the second wicket, after India lost opener KL Rahul (2) cheaply in the first over itself.

“Actually, everything went my way,” Vijay said. “I felt really good about myself before coming into the game. Just wanted to continue playing the way I did in the last series. Myself and Pujara just stuck to the basics, getting singles when possible. I really like batting with him, it’s a comfort factor, he has a solid game.”

“We just keep our game plans simple, don’t try too many things,” he added. “And we speak to each other very well. “Virat batted in a great manner and hopefully he can continue in the same manner.”

Bangladesh had started off pretty well by dismissing Rahul cheaply. But, Pujara and Vijay rebuilt the innings to put India in advantage. India dominated all three sessions of the day.

The visitors had their chances, but they failed to grab them. A run out chance in the first session and some dropped catches cost them dear when the stumps were called.
