The ICC has termed Bengaluru pitch ‘below average’. Chris Broad, ICC match referee, has rated the M Chinnaswamy Pitch, but it will not result in any fine. This, however, has increased scrutiny over the 3rd Test pitch in Ranchi.
Broad, meanwhile, has termed Bengaluru stadium’s outfield ‘very good’. His main concern with the M Chinnaswamy Pitch was the variable bounce, which led to a number of dismissals in each side.

In the second innings of the Bengaluru Test, the ball practically rolled leading to the dismissals of Ravichandran Ashwin and Steve Smith. The cracks on the pitch increased as the play progressed, and got widened.
Earlier, the pitch in Pune was rated poor by the ICC. The series opener ended inside three days at the MCA Stadium.

The Indian team, however, is not much concerned about the nature of pitch, and hoping for a favourable result.
“We only hope we will win,” Indian coach Anil Kumble said. “How many days the Test will last I wouldn’t know. But I only hope there will be a result and it will be in our favour.”
