Buoyed by their recent form against Australia, India would be looking for another outstanding T20 series when they take on an inexperienced Sri Lanka in the opening game in Pune.
The hosts are up against the defending World T20 champions. However, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since the time Sri Lanka won the World T20 crown two years ago. Now it’s a different ball game altogether.
With no experienced players like Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath missing the series due to injury, Sri Lanka are actually quite a depleted side.
It’s a side filled with a plenty of youngsters, but that has nothing to do with the way the Indians are thinking. Ahead of Asia Cup and most importantly World T20, India are in merciless mood.
Besides, the dice is loaded in India’s favour as the series unfolds here at home. That too in front of all the known fanfare and excitement. The good thing is that India are staying focused on the task at hand.
Side-by-side, India haven’t forgotten the World T20 final debacle against the Lankans in Bangladesh. Despite coming close to winning the coveted trophy, India couldn’t cross the finish line. Right now, it’s a fresh start and winning is all that matters.
