India Squad: Seniors rested, Ajinkya Rahane to lead Team India in Zimbabwe

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Ajinkya Rahane as the skipper of Team India in absence of senior players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma.

In the absence of senior players, Rahane was the automatic choice to lead the team, as the BCCI opted for a second string squad for three ODIs and two T20Is. Selectors have also decided to rest Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav and Shikhar Dhawan for this short tour.

The Indian cricket team would be playing without any specialist wicketkeeper in Zimbabwe, either Robin Uthappa or Kedar Jadhav will take up the glove work for the team.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh has made a comeback into the limited-over side, after returning to the Test squad against Bangladesh. Leg-spinner Karn Sharma is also included in the squad for the series.

The pace department is more less the same, as Sandeep Sharma is the only addition, featuring Mohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni.

Manoj Tiwary has returned to the 15-member squad, Manish Pandey is also awarded a place in the squad, while Murali Vijay is also drafted into the limited-over squad.
