Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid said on Tuesday that the India can go distance if they could play to their potential. “The team has several match winners and there is no reason to believe that this team can’t do well in the World Cup,” Dravid said.

Dravid also shortlisted four teams who could possibly play the semis. According to the former skipper, co-hosts Australia and New Zealand along with in-form South Africa and defending champions India could the semifinalists in the tournament. He also felt that it would require “three good days” to win the most coveted trophy for India.

“The format is such that all top teams will play in the quarterfinals. From there on you need three good days to win the World Cup. We have Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who can singlehandedly win a match. I am not saying it would be easy. It would be very tough but we can always be a bit lucky some good individual performance we can win World Cup,” he added.

The former Test great also said that the spinners will have a role to play in the upcoming tournament. “Seeing some of the wickets in the Test series, those are the grounds we are going to be playing the World Cup in as well, they’ve been really slow wickets, and the spinners have come into play for those wickets. So you’re just going to have to balance it out.

“There can be conditions where spinners might not have such a big impact in a particular game, but you might go to Adelaide or Sydney and you’ll see it’s a lot dryer,” said Dravid.
