World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev is conferred with a life time achievement award in the House of Lords on Wednesday.

The former Indian skipper was given the award in a ceremony for his contribution to the sport and upliftment of poor through Khushii society.

The Indo-European Business Forum (IEBF) presented the award to the 55-year-old Kapil Dev and the former captain said he is happy to receive the award.

“I am very proud to be Indian. Today India is ready to do business with anybody in the world,” Kapil Dev said. I used to hate England because they ruled my country but I am happy they gave us the game of cricket, which they can’t play very well, and the English language, which I can’t speak very well.”

Kapil is arguably the greatest fast bowler ever played for India and also led Team India to its first World Cup triumph in 1983, by beating West Indies in the final.

The former pacer represented India in 131 Tests, took 434 wickets and scored 5248 runs, featuring eight centuries. He also played 225 ODIs and scalped 253 wickets and scored 3783 runs.
