Fluent Shikhar Dhawan puts India on top in rain-interrupted 1st session

There were chances for Bangladesh in the 1st session, had they were taken India could have been under a lot of pressure. But, this, however, didn’t happen and Indian openers made merry in the opening session.

The first chance was against Murali Vijay, when a close leg-before shout was turned down by the umpire. Later, just before the rain-interruption, Shuvagata Hom spilled a chance of dismissing dangerous Shikhar Dhawan off Taijul Islam.

That was it for Bangladesh, as the session belonged to the Indian openers, Dhawan in particular, who hammered the hosts at will. Dhawan looked in a fine touch and scored a fluent, unbeaten half-century and is looking dangerous in the middle.

Vijay, meanwhile, looked a lot more composed and is playing a contrasting innings compared to Dhawan. While Dhawan has struck 71-ball 74 in the morning session, Vijay is batting on 33 off 70 balls, as the Indian cricket team reached 107/0 in 23.3 overs.

Earlier, Team India’s new Test skipper, Virat Kohli elected to bat first after winning the toss. He decided to play with five bowlers, including three pacers and two specialist spinners. Cheteshwar Pujara, Karn Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to make it to the playing XI.

India XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Varun Aaron.
