Faf du Plessis endured a disastrous 6 balls in the middle against India in the virtual quarterfinal at The Oval. Those 6 balls decided South Africa’s fate in the ongoing tournament, as they crashed out of the Champions Trophy.

du Plessis got involved in a couple of run outs, within a space of 10 minutes. First to go was captain AB de Villiers, who responded to Faf’s call, only to see ever alert MS Dhoni brushing the bails off.

“I take full responsibility for AB’s run-out,” du Plessis said. “That’s my fault. Obviously he (de Villiers) is a big player for us and he was looking good and it was a crunch time in the game. Big mistake from my part running AB out.”

5 balls later, it was Miller, who had to head back the pavilion in a more embarrassing way. An “error in judgement” saw both Miller and du Plessis at the very same end. And, Virat Kohli made no mistake in taking the bails off.

“I suppose, after that moment, Dave (Miller) came in and we discussed that it is extremely loud out there,” du Plessis said. “It was difficult to hear each other. So the communication between the two of us was just for the next 5 overs.”

“Try and get the partnership going in, settle the partnership because the last thing you want to do is go wicket.”
