Kings XI Punjab are off the mark in the IPL 2016 after registering a comprehensive six-wicket win over Rising Pune Supergiants in Mohali today.

Their openers, Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra, laid a solid 97-run partnership. The partnership ensured an easy win for the hosts, despite some jitters.

David Miller, captain of the Kings XI Punjab, was pleased with his team’s performance, and had special words of praise for both openers in the post-match presentation.

“It all clicked tonight,” Miller said. “We got a good start from the openers and before that the bowlers did really well. Vijay and Vohra have done really well in the past too and credit to them.”

“Maxi did a great job in the end. Our batting in the middle over,” the captain concluded. “We still need to think about that and work on it a bit.”

Both Vohra and Vijay scored half-centuries for the home team, while Glenn Maxwell delivered some big blows towards to end to seal the deal for Punjab.

Earlier, bowlers set the win for Punjab by restricting the Supergiants to 152, despite Faf du Plessis’ half-century, and Steve Smith’s fighting knock.

Mohit Sharma was instrumental in restricting as he finished with three wickets, including well-set du Plessis and Pune skipper MS Dhoni in the final over.
