Healthy Competition In Indian Cricket Team for Opening Slot

KL Rahul made a strong statement by scoring his third overseas ton in the 2nd Test against the West Indies. This has created a sort of headache for the Indian team management ahead of the 3rd Test in Gros Islet.

Rahul had replaced injured Murali Vijay, but if the latter comes back, it will be interesting to see who will open for the visitors. Shikhar Dhawan, too, has made some healthy contributions in the series far, while dropping Vijay won’t be a good idea, seeing the kind of form he is in.

“There is a healthy competition in the team, which is very good for Indian cricket,” Dhawan said. “Off the field, we are very good friends. I have been opening the innings with Vijay.”

“So we get along well anyway and now Rahul is also a part of the group,” the Indian Cricket Team opener added. “We hang out together and go out to have dinners together.”

Dhawan, meanwhile, is not perturbed by the amount of competition in the Indian Cricket Team. He insisted that all three – he, Vijay and Rahul – gel pretty well off the field, and enjoy each other’s success.

“Yes, we are competitors and fighting for a spot as all three are doing well simultaneously,” Dhawan insisted. “But we enjoy each other’s success. It is a beautiful yet a rare thing that sportsmen get to experience.”
