Chris Woakes to Miss Remaining Champions Trophy Games

The emphatic victory of England over Bangladesh in the opening match of the Champions Trophy could not gratify as Chris Woakes sustained a side injury during the match. This injury threatens to rule him out of the tournament.

Woakes had gone into the final two matches of England’s recent ODI series against South Africa with a tight quad, He seemed fine as he opened to Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal, but just bowled one over before leaving the field.

He will undergo a scan on his left side, but the team is prepared for a bad news from the medical staff.

“He’s obviously been very impressive for us over the last couple of years, and a mainstay, a very reliable guy,” Eoin Morgan said. “And it is a worry when he goes off the field and can’t come back on and bowl.”

A typical injury involving damage to intercostals muscles take about four to six weeks to recover. But even after complete recovery, fast bowlers find it difficult to hit the crease with usual aggression.

Ben stokes also faced a knee injury that limited his ability to bowl in South Africa series.
