Australia opener Chris Rogers to retire after Ashes series

Australia opener Chris Rogers have decided to retire after the five-match Ashes series, starting August in England. Rogers, who played vital role Australia’s last Ashes win at home, insisted it is the right moment to hang boots.

“I’m very happy, I’ve been pretty fortunate to have this second go at it and have loved every moment of it, but time calls on everyone and I think it’s nearly up for me,” Rogers said. “I think to go out in the Ashes and in England where I’ve played a lot of cricket is pretty fitting.”

“With the amount of cricket I’ve played and the length of time I’ve spent there (in the UK) it would be maybe a great way to finish,” he said.

Rogers is hopeful of getting selected in the Australian team for the Ashes series. The Aussie said that the series win over England would be a perfect send off for him.

“I’m really looking forward to that if I get selected,” Rogers said. “It would round everything off and mean a lot. It would mean I’ve completed or been part of something big so that would be an ideal way to finish, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
