This might not be the best of news for New Zealand, days before the World Cup 2015, as opener Jesse Ryder’s place in the World Cup 2015 squad is now in serious doubt, following his withdrawal from the UAE tour.

Ryder was to travel with the Kiwi A team to the UAE for playing a series of limited-overs games and it was tipped as southpaws’ best opportunity to come back into the squad. He, however, has pulled out of the tour citing personal reasons.

New Zealand Cricket (ZCA) general manager, national selection, Bruce Edgar informed that the board respects Ryder’s decision and is looking for a suitable replacement. Ryder also missed Otago Volts’ last game on Sunday.

“NZC respects Jesse’s decision and is currently considering options for a replacement,” Edgar said. Edgar also said that in Dunedin he met Volts officials about the reasons, but didn’t inform about the specific reasons given by Ryder.

Ryder has been in and out of the side due to a number of off-field issues, despite pilling runs consistently in both international and domestic circuits. He was dropped in 2012 owing to disciplinary issues and also served a six-month ban for taking banned stimulants.

The Black Caps international then survived a serious assault in Christchurch in 2013, but made the comeback after recovering from multiple injuries. He was again dropped two months later for staying out late.
