Why Cheteshwar Pujara Was Ignored In Last Four Tests!

Cheteshwar Pujara made an unbeaten century against Sri Lanka in 3rd Test.

Besides lack of runs, the slow nature of Cheteshwar Pujara’s batting may have kept him out of the playing XI in the four Test matches that he had missed during the fag end of the Australia tour.

Pujara’s inability to score quickly placed Rohit Sharma ahead of him. Sources also said that there were deliberations over Pujara’s exclusions, but it was always Rohit Sharma who had the better off the Saurashtra batsman.

His weakness against incoming deliveries also added to his misery. Cheteshwar Pujara had only two options — that is to wait for right opportunity and work hard on his technique. The team management also realised that a batsman of Pujara’s nature is also important for a good Test team.

“Everyone can’t be batting aggressively like the Virat Kohli or the Rohit Sharma. The management thought over it and the injury to the regular openers of the team offered a perfect opportunity for Pujara to come into the slot,” an insider revealed it to Drcricket7.

Cheteshwar Pujara was asked if he would be ready to open the innings and he readily agreed and score an unbeaten 145 against Sri Lanka in the third Test match of the three-match series.

Whether Cheteshwar Pujara’s recent success will end the debate on ‘India’s perfect No. 3 slot’ or not is a difficult one to say, but it will surely give more headaches to the team management when the regular openers — Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan — return to Test cricket during the South African tour at home.
