Team India would be aiming to level the series in the 2nd ODI against South Africa.

Not very often, atleast at home, Team India is seen struggling to find footing, and nothing seems to be clicking for the men in blue right from bowling to batting at the moment. The 2nd ODI in Indore, however, is India’s chance of turning things around against surging South Africa.

Team India went down in the 1st ODI by a slender five-run margin in Kanpur, despite putting a brave effort with the bat. Rohit Sharma, along with Ajinkya Rahane, at one point made it look easy for the hosts, and he looked like taking the team home single-handedly. But, as South Africa get his prize wicket, India lost the way and failed to reach the target.

“The way Rohit and Rahane batted, it looked as if the pitch became quite easy to bat on. But it could be because of the quality they have in their batting that it seemed it was easy to bat on,” MS Dhoni said. “I felt Rohit took the risks of going for the big shots very well. When you’re chasing 300, you have to keep taking risks at regular intervals, and I felt that’s what he did brilliantly.”

The 2nd ODI will not going to be a walk in the park for Team India, seeing the kind of bowling form they are in. India failed to create enough pressure on South Africa batsmen, and leaked too many runs, especially in the death overs.

The Indian team would be without the services of in-form Ravichandran Ashwin, who got injured in the 1st ODI itself. It is a big blow for India, and with the bowling department already struggling, it would be interesting to see who will fill in for the off-spinner.

“The death bowling was not good,” MS Dhoni said. “It is a bit disappointing because there was reverse swing on offer for the fast bowlers, which means they should have executed the yorkers or even the back of the length, hitting the deck delivery. It could have been used more effectively, but we were not able to do that.”

“Our bowling at the end has to improve especially in conditions where there is some help for the fast bowlers. They may be in the form of reverse swing or it may be in the form of low-bounce wicket. Whatever it may be, if there is some kind of help, we’ve to make sure we don’t give away too many runs.”
