Team India is an experienced batting unit, says Ajinkya Rahane

It is a young and spirited Indian team that embarks on a two week journey to Bangladesh to play one Test and three ODIs. India start off their one-off Test campaign on the 10th of June at Fatullah. Before the Indian team’s departure, the team had a two day preparatory camp. While India’s Test captain Virat Kohli delved on a no-nonsense approach, the rest of the teammates stressed on feeding off Virat’s energy.

One of the vital cogs in the Indian batting line-up, Ajinkya Rahane described Kohli as aggressive and at the same time praised former Test captain MS Dhoni for instilling confidence in the team. “Virat’s captaincy is really aggressive on the field whether it is Bangladesh or Australia. He gives confidence to all of us,” Rahane said.

“Playing under Dhoni, we learnt a lot. He gave us massive confidence in Tests, ODIs and T20s. He actually taught us how to believe in ourselves and how to react in each and every situation. Everyone learns a lot from Dhoni and he is there in ODI so we are very happy,” he said.

Rahane also believed that the team is far more experienced right now when it came to batting as a unit overseas. “As a young unit, we visited South Africa, New Zealand and England for the first time. It’s very hard to compare right now. It’s very hard to say that we did not do very well.”

“As a unit, we are very experienced right now. We have got that experience and we know conditions very well. As a unit we will do very well in future,” Rahane said who himself has been one of the most consistent Indian batsmen of late.

Talking about his personal goals for the Bangladesh tour, he said, “I don’t set any goals. I just like to be there and improve my game, match by match and give my 100 per cent in the series. Results will follow automatically.”

Meanwhile wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha oozed confidence. He was of the view that playing conditions in Bangladesh are similar to that of Kolkata, a place where he has played most of his cricket.

“I have played most of my cricket in Kolkata. There is not much of difference in Bangladesh and Kolkata when it comes to the wicket. Wicket is almost the same. The rest of the things will have to be applied once we go there. The more I play for the country, I will get more experience and my confidence level will also get a boost. Hopefully all will be well,” Saha said. By: BCCI
