Stop experimenting with Kohli, insists Chappell, describes World Cup chances shaky

There are quite a lot of experiments going on in the Indian team ahead of the World Cup, with Virat Kohli dropping down the order and all-rounder Stuart Binny using the new-ball.

India is yet to taste success in Australia this summer, since landing in the continent-nation some two months ago. And, former Australia skipper Ian Chappell has described India’s World Cup preparations ‘shaky’.

“India’s World Cup defence is looking as shaky as Christchurch in the midst of an earthquake,” Chappell said. “If India are to have any chance of successfully defending the World Cup trophy, they will need the batsmen to score heavily.”

“The bowling has been profligate throughout the Australian tour and there are no signs that failing is about to be rectified,” he added.

Chappell said that India shouldn’t experiment with Kohli’s batting order and he must bat at his favourite number three position, where he has pilled so many runs in the one-day cricket.

“A good start to resurgence would be to reinstate Virat Kohli at No. 3, where he previously spent some time in ODIs,” Chappell pointed out. “With Rohit Sharma and Kohli at the top of the order, India have their firepower to the fore – an approach based on getting your retaliation in first.”
