The newly-appointed BCCI cricket advisory committee, which has stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, will have a say in Indian team director Ravi Shastri’s role after Bangladesh tour gets over.

Ahead of their first brain-storming session with the BCCI mandarins in Kolkata on Saturday, sources told Drcricket7 that Shastri’s role in Team India will be up for discussion besides chalking out a road map for Indian cricket.

It has emerged that BCCI is keen to know the point of view of the committee members before taking a final call on Shastri’s long-term association with the Indian team. The cricket advisory committee may also discuss and suggest the names of possible candidates who can become the head coach of the Indian team.

The committee is also authorised to suggest it to BCCI on whether Shastri should continue as a team director after the Bangladesh series gets over. With some of the senior cricketers in the team already batting for Shastri to stay at the helm of affairs a thought process of continuing with the former Indian captain till the World T20 Championship is already discussed in the BCCI board room.

BCCI is okay if the senior players and advisory committee are eventually on the same page on Shastri. However, there could be a twist in the tale. The former captain is more committed towards his commentary job than taking charge of the national team.

Money wise, commentary is even more lucrative and in these circumstances if Shastri is made to continue in his role, BCCI will have shell out a similar commercial terms and conditions as that of a TV commentator.

Sources also said that BCCI will have to take a call on how to restructure the National Cricket Academy in consultation with the advisory committee along with discussing the Indian coaching staff issue.

“It will be a marathon meeting, where a whole lot of issues will be discussed at length,” a source said while revealing that the role the advisory committee will also be discussed in detail during the meeting.
