Will Ranjib Biswal become Indian World Cup team manager again?

If the Indian cricket board is able to implement its plans, the current IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal could again become the World Cup manager of the Indian team in Australia.

According to sources, there are quite a few contenders for the post, but Biswal is considered to be the best candidate for his sheer stature. Incidentally, the former cricketer is also a member of the Rajya Sabha, representing the Congress party.

In the 2011 World Cup the Indian dressing room had “the best atmosphere” and that eventually played a huge part in India’s success, Biswal was one of the factors behind it. He ensured that the team was together and there was no distraction around the men in blue.

In 2013, when Indian cricket was going through a bad phase, Biswal was specially assigned the job of a manager for the Champions Trophy, in England, which India went on to win.

Thus far Biswal has been a good luck mascot for the team. Even in 2007, when MS Dhoni won the inaugural World T20 in South Africa, it was Biswal who was the national selector from the East Zone.

That is why if all quarters within the BCCI are able to agree Biswal is the best man to be with the current Indian team as manager for the World Cup, he could well be in that position.

Sources within the board say Biswal hasn’t been approached officially, but such a move can’t be ruled out either. Already, Ravi Shastri, the team director, is playing a special role in managing the team.

A senior statesman like Biswal could only be a greater help. It’s true that Biswal hasn’t pictured himself in such a role, but if a proposal is put forth, he may not be averse to the idea.
