Ranji Trophy Round-up: Mumbai, Assam, Jharkhand, Kerala post wins

Assam beat Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai triumphed over Baroda, Goa lost to Jharkhand, Kerala beat Services in the penultimate round of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 season. Here are the highlights of the round:

Baroda vs Mumbai: Mumbai cruised to a thumping 169-run win against Baroda in Vadodara to claims six points from the game and keep their chances of qualifying for the knockouts alive. After setting the hosts a 408-run target, the Aditya Tare-led side bowled Baroda out for 238 to pull off a sensational win. Leading the young attack, Shardul Thakur claimed a fifer while BS Sandhu and Akshay Girap claimed two wickets each to bowl the side to victory.

Bengal vs Railways: Railways gained three points on the basis of their first innings lead while hosts Bengal picked one from the drawn game in Eden Gardens. Resuming on 187/5, the home team declared their innings on 296/8 earlier in the day to set the visitors a 263-run target. Railways were 198/8 when the match was called off.

Jammu & Kashmir vs Madhya Pradesh: Ankit Sharma and Jalaj Saxena bowled MP to an innings and 97-run win against J&K in Indore on Day 3.

Karnataka vs Uttar Pradesh: Having posted a mammoth 719/9 before declaring their first innings, Karnataka received three points on the basis of a first innings lead from the drawn game. The defending champions were bowled out for 215 in the second innings after resuming on 8/0 on the fourth morning. When the match was called off UP were 42/2 and received a point for their effort.

Gujarat vs Maharashtra: Gujarat claimed three points on the basis of a first innings lead while Maharashtra received one from the drawn match. Following-on, the visitors resumed their second innings on 131/0 in the morning and declared their innings on 429/3 on the fourth day. Chirag Khurana was unbeaten on 130 while Ankeet Bawane on 100 when the match was called off.

Haryana vs Team Rajasthan: Joginder Sharma and Harshal Patel bowled Haryana to an innings and 119-run win against Team Rajasthan on the penultimate day.

Punjab vs Odisha: Odisha cantered to a six-wicket win in the low scoring game in Mohali on the third day of the four-day game.

Vidarbha vs Delhi: The Shrikant Wagh-led attack ran through Delhi twice to bowl Vidarbha to a thumping innings and 93-run victory in Nagpur on Day 3.

Assam vs Andhra Pradesh: Table-toppers of Group C, Assam coasted to a ten-wicket win against AP. Resuming on 116/6, Andhra were bowled out for 198 in the second innings earlier in the day. J Syed Mohammed picked five wickets while S Purkayastha picked three to help setup the game for Assam. Assam then chased down the target in 12.1 overs and picked seven points from the game.

Goa vs Jharkhand: Eight-wicket win over hosts earned Jharkhand six points from the match. Following on Goa were bowled out for 223 after resuming on 161/5 on fourth morning. Samar Quadri picked five while Shahbaz Nadeem took four to set-up the game for the visitors. Jharkhand then chased down the 54-run target for the loss of two wickets in 19.4 overs. Quadri finished with a nine-wicket haul from the game.

Himachal Pradesh vs Tripura: Himachal gained three points on the basis of their first innings lead while Tripura received one point from the drawn game. Tripura, who were asked to follow-on resumed their second innings on 20/0 and were bowled out for 239 later on the fourh day. The match was called off at the end of the innings. Rishi Dhawan, who had picked seven wickets in the first innings picked four in the second to finish 11 wickets from the game.

Kerala vs Services: Kerala cruised to a nine-wicket win against Services at the Conor Vayal Stadium, Tellicherry in Kannur. After being asked to follow-on on the third day, the visitors resumed their second innings on 123/6 on the fourth morning and were bowled out for an addition of 51 runs in the morning. Kerala then chased down the 10-run target for the loss of opener A Hegde’s wicket.
