Rahul Dravid asks for patient approach towards Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan

India opener Shikhar Dhawan is having a torrid run Down Under and has managed just 11 runs in last three innings in the continent-nation. Dhawan’s role in the team is under scrutiny and the voices are raised to drop the southpaw from the playing XI.

Former skipper Rahul Dravid, meanwhile, has lent his support to Dhawan and insisted that judging the Delhi batsman after few failures is not right. He added that Dhawan’s performance has been good in the ODIs and a patient approach is required towards him.

“Shikhar would like a few more runs,” Dravid said. “Having said that his performance in ODI cricket over the years has been good. Judging him on two-three failures during a tough tour of Australia, I think you need to be patient with him.”

“He deserves that right? He has earned that through his performances. I’m talking about ODIs,” he added. “Hopefully, he will get a good run. A guy like him in form would be invaluable for India. Give him a few more games.”

India is yet to taste success in Australia, since landing here about two months ago but the former captain is not worried about it. Dravid hoped that the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side will find the right combination ahead of the World Cup, starting February 14.

“I’m not worried about the form,” Dravid insisted. “We had few issues with injuries in the lead-up to the tri-series, but I’m not overly concerned. I’m sure once the World Cup comes around, everyone will be fit. If everyone is fit, we have got a good combination.”
