Australian skipper Tim Paine has been notorious for his sledging in the series. Time and again through the course of the three Test matches, his remarks have surfaced. Witty and incisive, he has managed to have the Australian audience finally accept him as their captain.
However, the chats have not all been one-sided. Fuelled by the “babysitter” jibe Paine took at him on day 3, Rishabh Pant came with the perfect reply for the Australian wicket-keeper when he came out to bat on day 4. Pant commented on the fact that Paine was merely a stand-in captain, hinting at his temporary reign given that Steve Smith will be eligible to lead an Australian side March 29, 2020 onwards.
The comment seems to have come from Pant now just out of his own feud with Paine, but is also a reply to the Australian’s dig at Virat Kohli while speaking to Murali Vijay.
The Indian wicket-keeper said:
“He’s a special guest up here boys, just a temporary captain. Loves to talk it’s all he can do.”
