MS Dhoni Suffers Injury; Parthiv Patel Named Backup

What could be a massive blow for the Indian team, captain MS Dhoni has suffered a muscle injury ahead of his team’s first game in the Asia Cup.

According to a release issued by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI), the Indian captain has suffered a muscle spasm on Monday in team’s practice session.

The BCCI has also named wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel as Dhoni’s backup for the Asia Cup, and he will be joining the team with immediate effect.

BCCI in a statement informed: “India ODI and T20I captain MS Dhoni has suffered a muscle spasm in the back during a training session today in Dhaka.”

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Parthiv Patel as the back-up wicketkeeper for the upcoming Asia Cup, 2016. He will join the team in Dhaka at the earliest.”

Team India will be playing its first game of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh on February 24, followed by a match against archrivals Pakistan on the 27th.
