Yuvraj Singh was roped-in by Delhi Daredevils for a whooping Rs 16 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. Delhi came into the auctions with the biggest pocket and outbid Royal Challenger for the destructive left-hander.

Royal Challengers brought Yuvraj for Rs 14 crore but released him ahead of the auctions. The southpaw attracted highest price second year in a row and joined Delhi-based franchisee.

“Happy to be a part of Delhi team,” Yuvraj said. “I am also happy that I would with Gary Kirsten, whom I have successfully played earlier.”

Delhi, meanwhile, also signed Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews for Rs 7.5 crore, while wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who got Rs 12.5 crore last year, went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 10.5 crore this time.

Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, along with South Africa Test skipper Hashim Amla went unsold in the marquee round.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore added Australia’s rising star Sean Abbott for Rs 1 crore, along with West Indies T20 skipper Darren Sammy for Rs 2.8 crore.
