The West Indies have named destructive opener Chris Gayle for one-off T20 against India. Their ODI captain, Jason Holder, however, is rested for the T20 game that will take place in Jamaica on July 9.

Gayle is West Indies’ highest run-scorer in the T20s. He has scored 1519 runs at a strike rate of 145.9 for them. The Windies have added Gayle in place of Lendl Simmons in the 13-member squad.

“We welcome Chris back to the T20 squad,” Courtney Browne, West Indies Chairman of selectors, said. “He is the most prolific batsman in this format and will add value to our team at the top of the order.

“He will get the chance to play on his home ground and against a top-quality Indian team,” he added.

Carlos Brathwaite will lead the maroon-brigade in the shortest version of the game.
