The 1st Test between India and New Zealand is just a week away, and even New Zealand acknowledged that the hosts have upper hand in the tour opener. Kanpur’s Green Park stadium will host the opening encounter.

Indian spinner are in superb form lately. Ravichandran Ashwin was India’s leading wickettaker in the West Indies. Ravindra Jadeja is fresh a superb performance in the Duleep Trophy. He took a ten in the final match.

“They’re probably different spinners to our boys, but they’re world class,” Mark Craig said. “They tend to play around a little bit with, I suppose, undercutting the ball slightly so they get that ball to skid and one to grab.”

“We’ve done a bit of work at watching how they bowl,” he added. “At the same time we’ve got to do what we do.”

The Blackcaps are heading into the Test series with three specialist spinners. There will be a lot of pressure over Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner and Craig to perform in the Indian conditions.

Whenever overseas spinners visit India, they are burdened with a lot of expectations. The pitches in India assist spinners, so much so that the ball even turns square, something not seen outside the subcontinent.
