Anil Kumble has revealed that opener KL Rahul will open for India in the upcoming Test against England. Rahul spent six weeks away from team, and missed eight matches, because of a hamstring injury.

The Karnataka-born has now recovered from the injury. He scored a century against Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy to prove his match-fitness. Kumble also confirmed that Rahul has recovered from the niggle.

“Yes, Rahul is available for selection,” the Indian coach said in the pre-match press conference. “You would want Rahul to be in the starting line-up, that’s the reason he has been included.”

“He has recovered now, and as per the protocol we wanted him to go and play a first-class match,” he added. “Since the match was happening very close to Vizag, it’s good to have him in the squad.”

The Indian team will drop Gautam Gambhir, who failed in Rajkot Test. Gambhir failed to make any contribution with the bat, and will be replaced by Rahul in the 2nd Test, starting tomorrow.
