West Indies opener Lendl Simmons has been ruled out of the remaining two one-dayers against India because of a back injury and has flown back home.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has confirmed the departure of Simmons, who will continue rehabilitation in native Trinidad and Tobago.
Windies board Tweeted: “WICB advised that Lendl Simmons has been ruled out of the tour of India. He has a back injury and will return to T&T to continue his rehab.”
The WICB is yet to name a replacement for Simmons, but the board tweeted that the selectors will take a call on it soon.
Windies board Tweeted: “The WICB Selection Panel will meet to name a replacement for Lendl Simmons in the coming days.”
Simmons didn’t feature in the two warm-up games for the West Indies and also sit out in the first two one-dayers. Skipper Dwayne Bravo opened the innings for him in the first match.
