Will it be mini IPL or mini Champions League?

By the virtue of being the stake-holders of the Champions League T20 (CLT20), top teams from Australia and South Africa are likely to be a part of the new T20 tournament, which the Indian cricket board (BCCI) is mulling to introduce from this year, replacing the existing CLT20.

Earlier, the top teams from these two Test playing nations used to regularly take part in the tournament. According to well-placed sources, BCCI is juggling with the idea of fielding the top four teams of the IPL with another set of four teams each from Australia and South Africa.

Sources also said that the board is also discussing the idea of fielding all the IPL teams along with one or two champion teams each from Australia and South Africa.

“BCCI is yet to arrive to decide on the nature of the tournament. All the major stake holders of the Champions League will be sitting together before coming out with a T20 tournament that will be more appealing towards the fans,” a source close to the development told Drcricket7.

It was also revealed that the proposed T20 league could be held in UAE, which hosted a part of the 2014 IPL due to the general elections in the country. For a while, the Champions League has been a burden on the broadcaster, revenue wise, because of low TV ratings in the past.

With not much of interest being generated in the Indian spectators about the prospect of continuing with the CLT20, the organisers are now forced to think differently to come with a T20 league that will appeal more to the Indian fans.
