MS Dhoni’s batting position has been the most talked topic lately. In the most part of his career he has played as a finisher, batting as low as sixth or seventh. This, however, has changed under Virat Kohli.
Kohli has always insisted that Dhoni should bat up the order. He argues that it gives Dhoni enough time to settle down and play freely. Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming, however, feels otherwise.

“It depends on the balance of the side,” Fleming said. “If you have straight-out batsmen, then I wouldn’t. He can do it but what you have to look at is that his strength is finishing the game.”
“People say why don’t you get him in earlier but the whole game changes from the 40th over, or the 16th over if it is a T20 game, when it becomes (the) death (overs). And that’s where he’s been the best, I think,” he added.
It will be interesting to see at which position will Dhoni bat in the upcoming Champions Trophy. In the recently concluded IPL, he rarely batted up the order for Rising Pune Supergiants.
