Three spinners in playing XI very much possible, says Srikkanth

Team India

It doesn’t happen too often even at home, but former chairman of the selection committee Krish Srikkanth said that India could also field three spinners in the playing XI, if need be.

“You can’t be playing a big tournament like the World Cup with a fixed mind-set. On a given day if the pitch is conducive to spin and the pacers are unable to deliver, India could also play three spinners in the team. It isn’t inconceivable for this to happen” Srikkanth told Drcricket7.

“If the spinners are more effective than pacers, there is no harm in playing the best bowlers in the team. It doesn’t matter if the matches are played in Australia. The grounds are big and you can’t take the spinners for granted in the World Cup as it progresses. The main thing for India is to win matches and if the spinners are able to deliver, it will serve the purpose,” Srikkanth added.

India have three spinners in their ranks – Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Plus, there are two batsmen like Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma who can bowl off spin. Even the vice-captain, Virat Kohli, can also roll his arm whenever the situation demands it.

So, captain MS Dhoni may not have to lose his sleep if the pacers are a big let-down in the tri-series, which is just before the World Cup.
