Shastri likely to continue as Indian team director

Indian team director Ravi Shastri is likely to continue in his role during the upcoming Indian tour of Bangladesh. According to sources, Shastri’s contract was till the World Cup, but the BCCI bosses asked him to continue in his role, which the former Indian captain couldn’t deny.

Whether Shastri will continue in his role after the Bangladesh tour gets over is yet to be decided. It also learnt that the new BCCI regime wants Shastri to stay, but he is more committed towards his commentary job. Under those circumstances, a new candidate could be considered for the job.

According to sources, a certain section within BCCI is strongly backing another former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly to fit into Shastri’s role. With an excellent track record of away Test wins, Ganguly is tipped to be the best option if Shastri doesn’t continue as team director.

Officially, BCCI hasn’t said anything to suggest that Ganguly will be a contender, but you can’t really rule out his name as he is supposed to be very close to the current BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Meanwhile, BCCI is also looking for a head coach for the Indian team and if all goes according to the plan, Duncan Fletcher’s successor could be named before the Bangladesh series.

Sources also insisted that the board isn’t in a hurry to name the coach. “BCCI isn’t in a hurry, but efforts are on to appoint a coach before the Bangladesh series,” a source told Drcricket7.
