Don’t rule out India just yet for World Cup: Chetan Chauhan

Team India

While the Indian cricket squad at the World Cup looks anything but lethal after their dismal performances, another former cricketer has come out in support of this lot. Former India cricketer, Chetan Chauhan, is of the opinion that India may have failed to make it count just before the World Cup by not winning ODI matches consistently, but that has little to do with what they’re actually capable of, under the able mentorship of captain cool MS Dhoni.

“You have to understand that the World Cup is a different tournament and the Indians are the defending champions,” Chauhan said. “What they have done in the past doesn’t matter. India’s performances in ICC events in recent years have been impressive and I don’t think you can rule them out.”

“The good news for India is that the batsmen are in form and almost all of them have scored some runs so far on the Australian front,” he added. “Our bowling is not as strong as our batting, but it’s is nothing to lose your sleep over. Wait and watch before you jump to any conclusions about this team.”

According to Chauhan, this World Cup is actually quite open unlike the previous editions. “Any team is capable of winning the tournament, but the Indian team has captain Dhoni, who knows how to win a World Cup,” Chauhan said.

“He is the only captain in the competition who has won every tournament one can think of,” he added. “So, India have an obvious advantage over other teams and you can’t really rule them out just yet.”
