Royal Challengers Bangalore reach playoffs, as rain play villain in penultimate league game

Rain

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have reached the playoffs of this year’s Indian Premier League, thus becoming the third team after the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to reach the final-four.

Bangalore’s final league game against the Delhi Daredevils at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was washed out owing to heavy rain, as both teams were awarded a point each from the tie.

The Royal Challengers might have sealed the playoff spot, but they would be thinking this game a robbed opportunity to finish second in the points table, behind the Super Kings.

Chasing 188 to win, the Royal Challengers could only manage to play seven balls before the rain interruption. There was a possibility of having a five overs game, but seeing the heavy downpour the match was suspended.

Earlier, put into bat, the Daredevils posted 187 on the board, thanks to some Proteas power. South African Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy put up a fine display to take the visitors to a competitive score.

When de Kock was batting, it looked like the Daredevils would post something beyond 200, but the Royal Challengers pulled back things with some fine bowling in the middle overs.

Saurabh Tiwary played a cameo at the end to propel his side close to 190, but Duminy’s swift innings was the standout performance, alongwith de Kock’s blitz.
