India’s Test batting isn’t about Virat Kohli any more. It’s also about KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Murali Vijay and new kid on the block Karun Nair. Nair took the world cricket by storm when he cracked a triple century against England in Chennai.
It was an outstanding start to Nair’s Test career – something which he did during his debut first-class season in 2013-14. This is the same Nair, who played a major role in Karnataka’s success at the domestic level.
More than that, consistency was the biggest motivating factor that went in favour of Nair getting picked to represent India. In 2015, he was picked for the first time in a Test team after regular opener Vijay was ruled out of injury.
It took more than a year for him to come into the limelight and make his Test debut, but he never lost hope of not making it to the playing XI.

After a horrendous Test debut and collecting 17 runs from first two Test matches of his career, Nair finally came into his element in the third match of his career in Chennai. Nair almost played like a Virat Kohli in Mumbai. The Indian captain was seen scoring his career best 235 against England.
Nair’s knock has also opened a huge debate around who will bat after Kohli. Once both Rahane and Rohit Sharma are back in the Test team. Some of the pundits of the game are of the opinion that it’s a happy problem for India. The team has so many good players waiting in the wings to do their bit for India.
As far as Nair is concerned, he must be itching to keep scoring after getting a triple hundred against England. He would also be expecting to be in the playing XI in the first Test match against Australia next year.
