The Chennai Super Kings displayed a solid performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, beating them fair and square. But, skipper MS Dhoni wants a more clinical show from his team, spinner in particular.

Dhoni, in the post-match presentation, pointed out a few blemishes in what looked like a complete performance. He urged his spinners to step up the game, seeing the business of the IPL approaching.

“We could have done better, there were a few situations where the application was wrong – both batting and bowling,” Dhoni said. “Our spinners need to come up with better performances, they haven’t done so well in the tournament and wickets will get slower as the tournament progresses.”

The CSK skipper was all praise for South African Faf du Plessis, who not only thrived with the bat, but also excellent on the field, taking a backward catch of dangerous-looking Manvinder Bisla.

“Faf has been brilliant and we stationed him at mid-off for that, he also talks to the bowlers being a senior player, if needed,” Dhoni said. “We have fielders who aren’t quick but we thrive on our fielding.”

Dhoni showed a brilliant presence of mind to dismiss AB de Villiers cheaply, which proved vital at the end. The skipper said AB is a fantastic player and getting him early is very important.

“That’s the awareness you need on the field, he is fantastic no matter where he is playing,” Dhoni explained. “It’s an easy wicket if you get him run out.”

The Chennai Super Kings are sitting second with ten points, behind the Rajasthan Royals in the standings, but they have played a game less. They will next face the Kings XI Punjab on April 25 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
