IPL 2015 News: BCB lifts sanctions from Shakib Al Hasan, free to play abroad

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has cleared former skipper Shakib al Hasan to participate in domestic tournaments outside Bangladesh, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Big Bash League (BBL), after banning him for six month owing to ‘serious misbehaviour’.

Shakib was banned on July 7 for misbehaving with national coach Chandika Hathurusingha and fans in Mirpur during an ODI against India. The all-rounder was banned for six months and was told that he would not get NOCs for playing in overseas leagues, but board president Nazmul Hassan has now lifted the restrictions.

“He has no barrier to play abroad. We have lifted the embargo on his NOC,” Hassan said. “It was a unanimous decision on behalf of the BCB’s board of directors. We are not against our players. However, there are times when situations demand strict measures.”

“The ban and NOC embargo on Shakib was a message to everyone that we will not compromise with discipline,” he added. “I am glad that the player took the sanctions in the right spirit and showed his character by coming back strongly.”

“I believe the outcome in the context of the Bangladesh team has also been positive and we have definitely seen greater teamwork and camaraderie during the series against Zimbabwe.”
