“How to improve the performance of the Indian Test team away from home”. This was the main point of discussion while looking for the Indian coach last month.
Eventually, Anil Kumble was picked ahead of others because he had the ability as a spinner to perform outside Asia. More importantly, Kumble learnt to take wickets on the pitches outside the sub-continent.
The cricket advisory committee and BCCI felt that the spin ace’s experience could be handy for the team in the long run. Also the fact that Indian Cricket Team being a batting heavy side, a head coach with bowling experience would be beneficial.
But believe it or not, India can’t win Test matches in countries like Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand without good fast bowling.
That is why our Test team needs a fast bowling coach. Apparently, Kumble has put his hand up to look after the entire bowling department all by himself.
Kumble will be a part of the team strategy along with Test captain Virat Kohli, sharing his ideas how to dismiss the opponents and also guiding the pacers and motivating the batting unit to be consistent.
Won’t it be too much on his plate? For sure, no one is trying to undermine Kumble’s ability to oversee things. We are talking about how India’s head coach could get some help if a bowling coach is added to the squad.
If not today, Indian Cricket Team will have to look at hiring a fast bowling coach tomorrow. Without this option, the India pacers may just struggle to make an impact.
