England have managed to post more than a fighting total in Chennai. The visitors posted 477 in their first innings. Moeen Ali scored the century, while fifties from Joe Root (88), Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson in the 5th Test.
It was a fighting partnership between Rashid and Dawson that propelled England to a healthy total. They added 108 runs for the eighth wicket when England had lost three wickets in the first session on Day 2.
The Indian spinners failed to impress, as the English batsmen looked confidence against them. Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra managed to take just one, while Ravindra Jadeja struck thrice.

The pacers, however, bowled better compared to their spin counterparts. Both Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav finished with two each. They also bowled economically, and maintained tight line and length throughout.
India, meanwhile, started the day extremely well. They dismissed three England batsmen in the morning session, including Ali (146). Ben Stokes (6) and Jos Buttler (5) were the other two dismissed in the 1st session.
But, after that, England fought back in the second session with Rashid (60) and Dawson (66 not out).
