India elect to bat first against Afghanistan in second practice match

India skipper MS Dhoni has elected to bat first against Afghanistan in the second and final practice match before the World Cup at the Adelaide Oval.

This is India’s final chance of getting back into the groove before the marquee clash against Pakistan in this very same venue on February 15. In the last warm-up fixture against Australia, India succumbed to an embarrassing 106-run defeat, a couple of days earlier.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, would be hoping to get some much-needed experience under their belt, as they are gearing up for their first 50-over World Cup.

“First 50-over World Cup, it’s a big event for us,” Mohammad Nabi says. “We are playing against the champions and it’s good preparation for the World Cup. We’ve spent one month in Australia and New Zealand and hopefully we will perform.”

Squads: India: Dhoni, Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli, Rahane, Raina, Rayudu, Jadeja, Ashwin, Patel, Mohit, Shami, Yadav, Kumar and Binny

Afghanistan: Nabi, Mangal, Stanikzai, Shenwari, Zazai, Zadran, Jamal, Ashraf, Naib, Hassan, Zadran, Zadran, Alam, Ahmadi, Ghani
