Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh seems to have lost a bit of zip in his bowling and was duly left out of the India’s playing XI in last two Test matches against Sri Lanka.
But according to sources, this chop and change shouldn’t worry Harbhajan Singh much. That is because he is still in India’s scheme of things and considered to be the second best off-spinner in the country after Ravichandran Ashwin.
So much so that Harbhajan Singh shouldn’t lose his sleep for losing his place in the playing XI. “The Indian team continues to back Harbhajan despite his average show in the Galle Test. The management rates him the best spinner after Ashwin,” a source close to the development told Drcricket7 recently.
Interestingly, from the time Harbhajan has made it to the Test team after a superb IPL performance earlier this year, Ashwin’s productivity in Test cricket is also gone up.
Call it competition or something else, Ravichandran Ashwin has emerged as one of the best off-spinners in recent times and has shown tremendous promise to win Test matches for India.
In a way, Harbhajan Singh may not be playing his bit on the field, but his presence in the dressing room is certainly spurring Ashwin to do even better!
