It didn’t turn out to be the season Rising Pune Supergiants were hoping for. They failed to qualify for the playoffs, as they lost nine out of 14 matches.

They finished the season second from the last, and managed to avoid the wooden spoon by prevailing over Kings XI Punjab in their last game of the season.

The Supergiants captain MS Dhoni, meanwhile, took some positives out of the season, and hoped that the team will come back stronger in the next season.

“It was a fantastic game,” MS Dhoni said in the post-match presentation. “If we were alive, this is the kind of game you wanted to win to get into the knockouts. Looking back, we started well and ended well.”

“We were never completely outplayed, which gives us the confidence that we can do better next year,” he added. “We have to lift our game slightly, which will have an impact on our team.”

Dhoni, himself, ended the tournament with a bang by scoring a scorching half-century and sealing a nerve-wracking win for his side in Vizag.

The Supergiants captain smashed 64 off 32 balls, including 23 runs in the final over bowled by Axar Patel to help his side win by four wickets.
